(The Olivet Discourse)
There are so many popular (and grossly incorrect) interpretations of Matthew 24, which is called the “Olivet Discourse,” that it boggles the mind. This discourse was given by Jesus shortly before His crucifixion. Suffice it to say, that nearly all popular and widely accepted interpretations are wrong, because they are based on other false teachings such as Dispensational Premillennialism or based on misinterpretations of the books of Daniel and Revelation.
The verses of Matthew 24:4-34 are speaking of the Great Tribulation, which was what happened to the Jews in A.D. 70 when Jerusalem was destroyed by the Roman armies and over 1 million Jews perished. That was the “great tribulation” … it is not some fanciful man-conjured 7-year period of time still yet to come in the future after some mythical Anti-Christ nationalistic/political figurehead person emerges. The verses of Matthew 24:36-51 are about the second coming of Jesus, as is all of Matthew 25.
